Arve Henriksen Percussion Trio at Kongsberg Jazz Festival
The final show being presented by All About Jazz, in collaboration with the Kongsberg Jazz Festival and Music Export Norway, under the banner Doing It Norway.
When it debuted at the 2011 Natt Jazz Festival in Bergen, nobody could have anticipated the fireworks that went off when trumpeter Arve Henriksen teamed up with eclectic percussionist Helge Norbakken and drummer Audun Kleive, who restricted himself solely to electronic percussion. In an all-improv set that found new places to leap to each time it seemed to near an ending, Henriksen's combination of far-reaching trumpet playing, electronics and voice worked in concert with a pulse and color-heavy sound from Norbakken and Kleive for an exhilarating set that was one of the best shows of 2011.
With a few additional shows now under its belt, there's no doubt Henriksen's show will take Doing It Norway out with the kind of thrilling abandon, unfettered experimentalism and unerring melodism that has defined Norway's music scene as one of the most innovative in the world.
